Scenario Details

APS Forward 2040 is a districtwide initiative to ensure APS schools and facilities align with the needs of students and families for decades to come. The plan addresses challenges such as overcrowded schools, underutilized campuses, aging facilities, and the need for equitable access to specialized academic programs. Its central purpose is to create stronger, more equitable schools and learning environments for every student.

These scenarios are not final and will continue to change based on public feedback. Community members are encouraged to plan now to attend one or more of the upcoming meetings — whether in-person, virtually, publicly, or in your community — to ask questions, provide feedback, and help shape the future of Atlanta Public Schools.

Scenario 1

Jackson will be consolidated onto Main campus, which is in very good condition and is designed for children this age. This option preserves the community with least cost and disruption.

Scenario 2

Both Jackson buildings will close and the school will move to the Sutton 6th grade campus, which will require significant retrofitting to accommodate PK-5 children. This scenario will require rezoning and it may become much larger.

Scenario 3

Both Jackson buildings will close and the school will move to the Sutton 6th grade campus in a new PK-8 format. The buildings requires retrofitting to accommodate young children and there is much uncertainty in the programming and zoning for this scenario.

Dedicated parents and community members have advocated for Jackson at several meetings with APS and city officials. Here is a helpful FAQ with all of the answers we currently have. This will be updated regularly.
